The Passavant AD Process

The stages of the process are understood to be as follows:- (Please contact Passavant to confirm these details which are not verified.)

  • Passavant-DigestorThe first action after the weighing and delivery of waste is a recycling and separation stage which results in a residual organic fraction that cannot be recycled;
  • The separation stage is based upon grinding, which facilitates the automatic separation of non-ferrous metals;
  • This is followed by automatic separation of the organic rich fraction;
  • Transport of non-recyclable residue to landfill;
  • Second grinding of the organic rich fraction, with further separation, including separation of heavy reject (inert materials e.g. sand, stones, glass, ceramic, batteries, heavy plastic, etc);
  • Feedstock is then sent to modular digestion units,  where pasteurisation is carried out to comply with Animal By-Products biosecurity regulations, followed by either mesophilic or thermophilic anaerobic digestion;
  • Dewatering of sludge,
  • Aerobic maturation of digested sludge;
  • Biogas preparation, condensate separation, filtering, de-sulphurisation;
  • Biogas utilisation in combined heat and power stations CHP.

The system is designed for MSW.
