Schmack Biogas AG
Schmack Biogas AG was a German early starter (formed in 1995) in the biogas industry, such that it is now reported to be one of the most important suppliers in the German biogas sector.
According to the company profile in the “Environmental Expert” the company has built 204 plants with a combined nominal output of approximately 61 MW.
Schmack Biogas AG provides a full service and designs and constructs high quality biogas plants of various sizes for a wide range of different feed-stocks. Schmack has a great deal of experience and provides clients with a solid basis required for stable fermentation processes, and will advise on feedstock in order to assist operators in optimising the utilization of their plant.
It was recently announced that Schmack Biogas AG and HgCapital, a leading private equity investor in Europe, has signed a €130 million framework agreement that will provide funding for a series of biogas plants, running until 2010. Schmack Energie Holding GmbH will be responsible for planning, construction and operation of the plant.
Schmack Biogas will aim to enter agreements to build 12 to 15 biogas plants with a combined capacity of approximately 30 MW across the sites of large holdings.
One quote we found on the internet said of Schmack; “We have found a partner that combines mature technology with a compelling and innovative feedstock and service concept”.
Ariva.de reported at the end of November 2007 that:
“The company projects continued sales growth and an improvement in earnings for 2008. To achieve these targets, Schmack Biogas will continue to pursue its current strategy. This includes not only the ongoing internationalisation of the business activities and the standardisation of large-scale plants but above all the strategic concentration on gas feed-in projects in cooperation with energy companies and financial investors. This strategy has been pushed forward since the IPO. A new raw material strategy is designed to provide additional stimulation. 'We are optimising the crop rotation by using catch crops, i.e. crops that grow in the times between the actual main crops such as maize or grain. This reduces our exposure to global agricultural prices and puts an end to the much-discussed competition for land with the food industry,'
Ulrich Schmack explains: “
At the same time, this approach significantly increases yields per hectare and improves soil fertility in the long term.”
Schmacks clients include, Agricultural businesses, professional investors and energy producers.
Subsidiaries of Schmack Biogas AG include CarboTech Engineering for biogas cleaning, Köhler & Ziegler for CHPU packaging and heating concepts and Hese Biogas for organic waste solutions.
